Hello Mustard Fans!
It's nearly that time again, and I'm putting in lots of late nights at the Studio, working hard to get everything a-ready in time!
I've just heard that I will be getting a small stock of the six new Mustard mugs for the Open Studio. Very exciting it is, as they look just marvellous! I have just seen the proofs and they won't be on general sale until sometime early in the New Year: Fine china, full colour beauties with little gift boxes. What an ideal gift for that Someone Special in your life who already has their wall space covered! As I say, the proper production run will not begin for a few months, and when they appear on Mustardshop for mail order I will let you know via the Facebook group. They will retail at £12.99, I hear, and only a precious few to be had before Christmas to Open Studio callers. If you want one you'd better come early. Well, not before 12 noon on Saturday, because we will still be making the mulled wine and doing our last minute preparations for you. We open 12-6pm on Saturday and Sunday 8th and 9th December at Brown Dog Studio, 12 Chapel Mews, off Waterloo street (turn left just before you hit the sea), Hove BN3 1AR.
We have updated the Mustardshop as there are so many new small mounted prints and signed posters for you to peruse (just in case you are not all spent up for Christmas already). The new Mustard Duck Billed Bassypuss bags are heading to Mustardshop as we speak. At £4 each, these brand new organic cotton shoppers would be perfect as stocking fillers, reusable wrapping paper, or even stockings themselves if you're one of those people that uses pillow cases rather than the conventional stripy socks? And the Christmas ecards are up there now and raring to go, should you be in need of sharing some free and paperless Christmas cheer with distant loved ones.
But it would not be Christmas for me without a strange and wonderful Mustard competition... This year it’s a photography competition to be entered via our Facebook group, if you're willing? This crazy idea came from my friend Sweetie Haycraft whilst we were sitting in a favourite Brighton Japanese Restaurant (Ooo, we're sophisticated here, you know). Dearest Sweetie picked up a piece of vegetable tempura and remarked that it looked just like Mr Mustard's boot. Amazing but true. So what we wondered was whether you have made such interesting discoveries? Have you seen a potato that looks just like Doris dog? Or a pattern on a mince pie crust that reminds you of Violet, the dear lady wife? You get the idea? If you have experienced similar shenanigans and happen to have a camera to hand, do us a snap and post your handiwork on our Facebook group for all to see. I'll have great fun looking at them over my quiet Christmas spent here with my dogs. And in the New Year I will pick my favourites and send them a Mustard Mug, as soon as the new production run emerges from the kiln. I wonder whether any/many will rise to THAT challenge???
So, dear Mustard Lovers, I must leave you now as I have posters to wrap, 72 minceypies to make and puppets to practise. I hope to see many of you at our Open Studio this weekend, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th 12-6pm at Brown Dog Studio with free performances at 1.30 and 4pm daily. It's going to be fun!
All the very best of the Season to you. Thanks for all your support over the past year, and I hope 2013 brings you the joy and love you deserve,
Sam Toft and the Mustard Clan x
PS ... And don't forget to put a date in your diary for my Show in April
