Sam Toft has created an imaginary world inhabited by one Ernest Hemmingway Mustard, professional tuneless hummer and part-time hurricane predictor of Brighton and Hove. He lives in a not-so-damp basement flat with his dear lady wife Violet and Doris their grumpy and rather portly Jack Russell Terrier. Sam follows their adventures along the Prom and across the globe. She works in oil pastels and coloured inks using proper artists' materials along with kitchen towels, items of cutlery, steel pen nibs, pencil dust, old tooth brushes as well as her innovative fingers and thumbs technique. Patent pending.
‘ Since I was a girl, I’ve loved playing shops. But it’s taken until I’m 50-something to create one of my own. Little Mustard Shop is a home from home for Mustard fans who can visit all year round ( generally Wednesdays to Sundays 10.30-5pm at 33 Clifton Hill BN1 3HQ ). It’s full of treasures and exclusive gifts, small pictures and surprises you won’t see anywhere else. Something fresh to discover each week. I hope you enjoy your visit.’
PLEASE NOTE: As a TINY shop we will stock only small favourites. If you are looking for the full range of available prints you could visit our online Mustard Shop.
Two beautifully restored phone boxes on Powis Square, Brighton just a bone’s throw from Little Mustard Shop itself, bringing monthly curated exhibitions into the heart of the community. A free, non-profit making, lock up public Gallery space. Cadi would be delighted to receive your proposal for the space at email@example.com
