I used to have a little dog called Stanley Philpot. When he died I was bereft. For months I slept with a small cuddly toy that I’d put his collar on. When I visited a favourite bench I couldn’t bear to look at the place where he used to sit beside me. Instead I would look at the view we once shared together. And all life just seemed to carry on without my little curly top by my side.
